The Conference “Earth Observations for Sustainable Development and Security” June 3– 5, 2008, Kyiv, UkraineThe first conference on "Earth Observations for Sustainable Development and Security" will be held from 3 to 5 June, 2008 in the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", Kyiv, Ukraine. Organizers: The National Space Agency of Ukraine (NSAU), the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), the Space Research Institute of NSAU-SSAU, the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (NTUU “KPI”), Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian sciences (UAAS). Other Ministries will participate in consent. The goal of the Conference is to discuss the prospects of aero- and space-born data utilization for natural resources management, sustainable development and security in course of GEOSS, GMES, INSPIRE activities and establishment of the Ukrainian segment of GEOSS (GEO-UA system). International researchers and experts interested in Earth observation data application will have the opportunity to present and discuss, results and ideas with focus on the following areas: - Disaster reduction: flooding, forest and field fires, water, air and soil pollution;
- Human health improvement;
- Water resource management;
- Understanding and adapting to climate variability and change;
- Improved weather forecasting;
- Management and protection of ecosystems;
- Sustainable agriculture;
- Sea and ocean problems;
- Understanding and conserving biodiversity.
